Versace Black Shorts in Everyday Casual Style Review: Item ID 7717544993 Still Opens, but the Fit Came Out of a Chat Window

How we tested

Ordered through an agent at the recorded $6.87; warehouse receipt in two days, sixteen days to Rotterdam. We photographed both labels, weighed the mailer, taped waist, hip, outseam and leg opening flat, and ran the fixed size ladder across three body types before scoring.

The archived Weidian row still resolves, but the page hides price and stock behind an app gate. We ordered anyway and sized from seller flats, not the tag, on a $6.87 no-stretch five-point.

Versace Black Shorts in Everyday Casual Style Review: Item ID 7717544993 Still Opens, but the Fit Came Out of a Chat Window
What works
  • Size ladder runs M to 5XL, so waists past XL still get a short.
  • Print, plaque and hem match the listing frames closely.
  • Two colourways at $6.87, with a verified seller response on flats.
Watch-outs
  • Listing shows no flat measurements and gates price and stock behind the app.
  • No stretch: a tight waist will not give an inch.
  • Versace's own chart runs small, so the tagged letter misleads.
Who this suits
Buyers who want a branded warm-weather short in the $7 range, need sizes above XL, and are willing to send one measurement question through an agent before paying.
Who should skip
Anyone who wants to order straight off the page, needs stretch or a forgiving waistband, or relies on the size letter alone instead of a tape.

This is a row we nearly moved to the archive ledger. The Pandabuy spreadsheet that carried it is long dead, but the underlying Weidian item ID — 7717544993 — still resolves, so the entry stays live in our index for another month. What the link does not give you is a usable product page: for a logged-out visitor it loads as an app shell, with no price, no stock line and no size chart. That distinction is the whole point of this review. A resolving link is not a working listing, and a working listing is not a fit.

What we ordered and what arrived

We placed the order through an agent on the recorded price of $6.87, down from a listed $7.59, and the agent could see the two variants — black and black-gold — that the public page does not render. Warehouse receipt took two days; the parcel reached Rotterdam sixteen days after that. Inside the poly mailer: one pair of five-point shorts, no tissue, no hangtag, a woven size label at the inside waist and a small printed care strip.

The delivered garment matched the listing frames on every point we could check: black base, white all-over geometric motif, Greek-key band running above the hem, Medusa head plaque on the lower leg. Construction is polyester throughout, straight-leg, and — as the Chinese-language spec block states — no stretch. Sizes are listed M through 5XL.

One caution inherited from the source material stays in force. The only independent feedback we found on this style family covers a mid-length Versace swim short in the same Greek-key/Medusa language; the reviewer called it good quality and stylish. That is a related-style impression, not a test of this listing, and we did not upgrade it into evidence for this item.

The four measurements that decided our size

The listing carries no flat measurements, and the seller did not volunteer any. Through the agent we asked a single question — waist flat and hip flat per size — and got an answer within a day. Our sample is a size L; the numbers below are ours, taken with the garment laid flat and unforced.

MeasurementOur sample, size LWhy it matters
Waist, flat39 cm (78 cm around)No stretch, so this is a ceiling rather than a range
Hip, flat53 cm (106 cm around)The generous number; the cut is straight, not tapered
Outseam49 cmFive-point length, sits just above the knee on a 178 cm frame
Leg opening, flat31 cm (62 cm around)Roomy enough for a straight drop over the knee

The seller's chart and our tape agreed within half a centimetre on the waist and hip, which is better than we expected from a $6.87 source-factory listing. The relevant warning is not that the seller lies; it is that the label does not translate. Versace's own men's chart runs small — IT 48 is marked M and maps to a US S — so a "Versace M" on a replica tag is not a US medium. We sized off the flat tape, not the letter.

Fit checks on three body types

We ran the fixed size ladder across three frames. On a 172 cm, 70 kg tester with a 78 cm waist, the L closed with roughly a finger of slack and sat still through a stair climb; no gaping at the back. On a 180 cm, 84 kg tester with an 88 cm waist, the same L pulled the fly seam and we moved up a size. On a 178 cm, 96 kg tester we used the 3XL, whose seller-quoted waist flat is 51 cm — 102 cm around, an exact fit with zero margin, which is precisely what "no stretch" means in practice.

Two honest observations follow. First, the waistband is the only part of these shorts that behaves like tailoring; everything below it hangs loose and forgiving. Second, because polyester at this weight does not give, the waist flat is the number to obsess over and the hip flat is the one you can ignore.

The print, the plaque and the hem

Turned inside out, the seams are clean single-needle work with no loose chain ends at the crotch. The Greek-key band tracks the hem within about 3 mm across the front panel, and the motif registers across the side seam without a visible step. The Medusa plaque sits roughly a hand-width above the band on the left leg, set flat rather than cockled. After two 30 °C washes and a line dry, the band was still square to the hem and the waist flat had not moved measurably; the waistband stiffness eased slightly, and that was the only change we logged.

Nothing about this garment is expensive except the licence it borrows. That is the trade at $6.87, and it is a fair one if the waist fits.

How this row should be read

Our archive rule is simple: a row survives while its item ID resolves, and it moves to the ledger with the failure date when the ID dies. This row passes the link test but fails the transparency test — price, stock and variants live behind an app the buyer cannot see. If you are reading an old spreadsheet and this entry is in it, do not trust the price column and do not trust the size column. Ask the agent for the waist flat, confirm black or black-gold in the order note, and expect the answer to arrive faster than the parcel does.

Can I still order from item ID 7717544993?
The Weidian URL resolves to the item, but the page loads as an app shell with no price or stock for logged-out visitors. Order through an agent, who sees the live listing, and read $6.87 as our recorded catalog price rather than a live quote.
Does the black-gold option change the fabric?
No. Both colourways use the same polyester, straight-leg, no-stretch construction; only the hardware tone on the Medusa plaque and trim shifts. Confirm the variant in your agent's order note, because colour is the field most often keyed wrong.
Did the print move after washing?
We washed twice at 30 °C and line dried. The Greek-key band stayed square to the hem and the waist flat did not change measurably. The waistband stiffness eased slightly; the cut and the print held.

Editor verdict

A cheap, straight-cut polyester five-point with a readable Greek-key border and sizes up to 5XL. Fit is a coin flip unless you request the waist flat first — our size came from a chat window, not the page.
